About West Daly Regional Council

The West Daly Regional Council commenced operation on July 1st, 2014, in response to an identified need to present a stronger voice and greater control over the delivery of services in the West Daly area. The new council entity covers the Wadeye-Peppimenarti-Palumpa areas and exists to serve and strengthen the community through the laws, policies and programs of Councils and the Northern Territory Government.

About the Opportunity

West Daly Regional Council now has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Human Resources Manager to join their team based in Wadeye, NT, on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Human Resources Manager plays an integral role in the Management Team to support the implementation of Council's Regional Plan and Budget, operational plans and agency contracted services funding agreements.

You’ll be primarily responsible for providing the complete range of human resource services including recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, dispute resolution, terminations, and industrial relations advice.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining effective partnerships and linkages with staff, agencies, HR service providers and other key stakeholders;
  • Providing advice on the interpretation of HR policies, procedures, guidelines, and employee relations issues;
  • Coordinating recruitment internal recruitment processes end-to-end;
  • Providing advice to staff on pay and remuneration, including promotion and benefits; and
  • Coordinating staff induction and training programs as required.

About You

To be successful in this position you will hold tertiary qualifications in human resource management, with demonstrated prior experience in a human resources role, including extensive knowledge of contemporary human resource management principles and practices, as well as a sound knowledge of workplace health and safety and equal employment opportunities. 

Experience working within a Local Government environment will be highly regarded, but is not mandatory to your success in this position. 

Importantly, Council is looking for someone with the ability to work in a cross cultural environment in a regional and remote setting. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong mediation and negotiation skills to assist you to effectively manage staff performance in a constructive and professional manner.
