The new Council entity covers the Wadeye-Peppimenarti-Palumpa areas and exists to serve and strengthen the Community through the laws, policies and programs of Councils and the Northern Territory Government.

To help establish and grow West Daly Regional Council, the organisation is currently recruiting people who share their vision to deliver services and prosperity that represent the people it services.

About the Region

Wadeye is located 420 km south-west of Northern Territory's capital, Darwin, and has the largest Aboriginal Community with a population of 2,500, comprising over 20 clan groups speaking seven languages. Wadeye offers residents all the conveniences of a modern town, with a post office, grocery store, art gallery, schools, police station, healthcare and an airport with daily flights to Darwin (only 50 minutes).

About the Opportunity

West Daly Regional Council currently has an exciting position available for a dedicated, independent thinking Senior Works Supervisor to join their team in Wadeye, NT, on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Regional Services Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of Councils core services within the Community and surrounding areas. Additionally, you'll be responsible for maintaining Council assets, and ensuring they are in a condition that meets the minimum requirements of operation for the Community and surrounding areas.

  • Carrying out general construction and maintenance of civil works services, which include parks and gardens, waste, and patching repairs to local roads;

  • Traveling extensively to remote locations and surrounding areas when required, to perform civil service requirements;
  • Maintaining a safe working environment; and
  • From time to time carrying out other duties outside the scope of this role in line with direction from the Regional Services Manager.

To be considered for this role, you will be able to demonstrate previous experience working in a civil position, ideally within a Local Government environment. You'll have a solid understanding of general maintenance and servicing of tools, plant and equipment, and the maintenance of parks and gardens. Additionally, you'll have experience working within controlled work areas, and will have experience with road patching techniques.

You'll possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and will have well developed problem solving skills and the ability to rapidly re-prioritise shifting work requirements.

Importantly, you will be able to work well in a cross cultural environment, and have a sound understanding of Indigenous cultures, and the ability and desire to work within a remote Community.
