About the Organisation

The West Daly Regional Council commenced operation on July 1st, 2014, in response to an identified need to present a stronger voice and greater control over the delivery of services in the West Daly area. The new council entity covers the Wadeye-Peppimenarti-Palumpa areas and exists to serve and strengthen the community through the laws, policies and programs of Councils and the Northern Territory Government.

About the Opportunity

West Daly Regional Council has a rewarding opportunity for a Workplace Health & Safety and Property Officer to join their team based in Darwin, NT.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for the reviewing, developing, monitoring, and evaluating the implementation of policies, procedures, strategies, and programs related to WH&S and Tenancy Agreements that most effectively and efficiently meet the goals and objectives of Council whilst adhering to all relevant Acts, Regulations and Legislation.

More specifically, some of your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Developing and implementing strategies to improve WH&S, including reviewing effective hazard and incident investigations, and reporting;
  • Scheduling internal audits of WH&S management systems, and external audits as required;
  • Establishing and maintaining risk assessment records;
  • Ensuring all mandatory qualifications and tickets are up to date and current prior to staff engaging in required work activities;
  • Completing administration duties of Council owned properties, including maintenance, lessee liaison and property inspections;
  • Providing reports outlining maintenance schedules, condition of assets and other asset related reports as required;
  • Investigating, reporting and follow up on any insurance claims in relation to any of Council’s properties; and
  • Acting as a contact for tenants, licensees and lessees as well as Council staff and contractors with regard to all licences and leases.

To be considered for this position, you will have a Diploma or relevant qualification in WH&S and demonstrated experience in the areas of WH&S and Risk Assessment. You will also have extensive knowledge of WH&S and Risk Assessment legislation and the ability to complete risk assessments.

The ideal candidate will also possess a current first aid certificate, understanding and experience in the tenancy process and knowledge of Local Government Act. Any previous experience gained in property and/or asset management; real estate qualifications; or working within a remote Indigenous community, will also be highly regarded.

You will have demonstrated computer skills and a high level of oral and written communication skills including the ability to write detailed reports and prepare external correspondence.

Importantly, you will display the highest level of integrity and ethical conduct, always demonstrating a positive approach to your work, and accepting accountability for ensuring compliance and governance to regulatory requirements.

A current Australian driver's licence is required for this role.
