About the Opportunity

West Daly Regional Council currently has two exciting positions available for dedicated, independent thinking Civil Services Team Leaders to join their teams. These are full-time roles, one based in Palumpa, NT and one based in Wadeye, NT.

Reporting to the Regional Services Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of the Council's core services within the Community and surrounding areas. Additionally, you'll be responsible for maintaining Council assets and ensuring they are in a condition that meets the minimum requirements of operation for the Community and surrounding areas.

More specifically, your key responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining systems for recording the Community’s civil assets, condition and the serviceability for all plant and equipment;
  • Carrying out general construction and maintenance of civil works services, which include parks and gardens, waste, and patching repairs to local roads;
  • Ensuring materials, equipment and supplies are available, maintained and stored securely;
  • Traveling extensively to remote locations and surrounding areas when required, to perform civil service requirements;
  • Maintaining a safe working environment; and
  • From time to time, carrying out other duties outside the scope of this role in line with direction from the Regional Services Manager.

To be considered for this role, you will be able to demonstrate previous experience working in a service related position, ideally within a Local Government environment. You'll have a solid understanding of general maintenance and servicing of tools, plant and equipment, and the maintenance of parks and gardens. Additionally, you'll have experience working within controlled work areas, and will have experience with road patching techniques.

You'll be able to provide on the job training and mentoring for employees undertaking various maintenance duties, and will have the ability to lead and manage small work teams. You'll possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with well developed problem solving skills and the ability to rapidly reprioritise shifting work requirements.

Importantly, you will be able to work well in a cross cultural environment, and will have a sound understanding of Indigenous cultures, as well as the ability and desire to work within a remote Community.

A current Construction Industry Accreditation (White Card) and valid driver's licence are required for this role. Applicants with an HR licence and Work Zone Traffic Management Accreditation will be looked upon favourably, however these are not essential for this role.
